Does The Christian Olympics Have a Paralympics?

The Opening Ceremony for the 2012 London Paralympics was on Wednesday August 29,2012 several weeks after the 2012 London Summer Olympics. The Paralympics is for athletes with physical disabilities such as amputations, blindness, and Cerebral Palsy. These events will last for eleven days. About 4000 athletes from 165 countries will be competing in various sporting events.

Having the Paralympics Games in London is very significant because it was where they began. It was in 1948 at the London Olympics when Ludwig Guttmann of the Stoke Mandeville Hospital in England organized a competition for wheelchair athletes. They were called The Stoke Mandeville Games which are now known as the Paralympics. All of this came about after World War ll when there were many injured veterans and civilians. And sports was introduced as rehabilitation which led to recreational sports and finally to a competitive sport.

But does the Christian Olympics have a separate Olympics for Christians that have physical disabilities like the Paralympics or intellectual disabilities like the Special Olympics? Is there an opening and closing ceremony for the Christians that have physical or intellectual disabilities and another ceremony for those that have no physical or intellectual disabilities. Is there a separate reward ceremony for the blind, the lame, and the deaf ? According to 2 Corinthians 5:10 “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ ;that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.” In. the Christian Olympics there is no separation between those with disabilities with those that have no disabilities. We will all appear at the closing and reward ceremonies at the same time. It is an all inclusive spiritual marathon race to the Finish Line.

Happy Birthday Christianity !!!

On May 10,2012 the flames were ignited in Olympia Greece for the 2012 London Summer Olympics. Keeping up with the tradition, the flames are always ignited in Olympia where the Olympic games began by using the rays of the sun. The flames arrived in Athens on May 18,2012 where the first modern games began and will travel through a torch relay to London. To arrive just in time for the Opening Ceremony of the 2012 London Summer Olympics on July 27,2012. The flames will remain lit until they are extinguished at the Closing Ceremony of the 2012 London Summer Olympics on August 12,2012 .

But today, May 27,2012 is Pentecost Sunday. Christians all over the world will be celebrating the birthday of the Church, Christianity and the anniversary of the Christian Olympics/race. Which began over 2000 years ago in Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost. Which took place 50 days after the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Here is what happened, when the disciples and followers of Christ were gathered together, the sound of a rushing mighty wind filled the house where they were sitting together. Then there appeared tongues that looked like fire that rested on them. And they were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak other languages the wonderful works of God(Acts 1-2). This was the beginning of Christianity, the Church and the divine Opening Ceremony of the Christian Olympics. Just as the Olympic Games open with flames of fire, The fire at Pentecost that symbolizes the Holy Spirit opened the Christian Olympics and Christianity and the Church was born. What is so significant is that the fire that symbolizes the Holy Spirit that was lit over 2000 years ago still burns today. What year did you join the 2000 year old Christian Olympics? When is your spiritual birthday? Happy Birthday !!!

London 2012 Olympics: The Christians Are Coming

According to the Associated Press the film that portrayed the true story of a Christian missionary and runner Eric Liddell, who refused to run on Sunday, will be played across Britain this summer. The classic film "Chariots of Fire," which title comes from the Christian anthem "Jerusalem," will be released on July 13, 2012, two weeks before the Olympics Opening Ceremony. Just recently the Olympic committee decided to remaster the film for the 2012 London Olympics as part of the London 2012 Arts Festival. The film was released in 1981 which won an Oscar the same year. The film's producer Lord David Puttnam says the film is about "guts, determination and belief."

During the 1924 Paris Olympics, Eric Liddell was scheduled to run the 100 meter race but it was to be held on a Sunday. Liddell said in the film "God made countries, God makes kings, and the rules by which they govern. And those rules say that the Sabbath is His. And I for one intend to keep it that way." And he refused to run on Sunday. Instead he ran the 400 meter race that was not held on Sunday and finished first. breaking both the existing Olympic and world records. On the day of the race an American Olympic team messenger gave him a slip of paper with the Bible verse from the first book of Samuel, chapter 2 and verse 30 which states "them that honour Me I will honour," And God honored him, he won the Olympic Gold Medal for the 400 meter sprint. He did not know if he would do as well in the 400m as he would for 100m. And the 400m was much harder, but he was determined to honour God.

Eric Liddell knew what his gifts and talents were and used them for God's glory. When you know what your gifts and talents are, and that God gave them to you; God inspires you with a sense of purpose, contentment and the feeling that you can do the impossible. You can feel God's power as he works in you and through you. This is how Eric Liddell felt when he stated in the film "I believe God made me for a purpose, but he also made me fast. And when I run I feel His pleasure."

Not only was Liddell in the Paris Olympics but he was also in the spiritual competition, the Christian Olympics. Fighting the good fight of faith while running on his spiritual race track of the world. As every Christian, no matter what their vocation is in this world, they are running in the spiritual marathon to the finish line.
