Today-The Anniversary of the Christian Olympics

The very first Olympic Game, known as the Ancient Olympics, began about 776 B.C. in Olympia, Greece. The Olympic Games were held every four years which is known as an Olympiad. The Games continued until it ended about 393 A.D.You can find many references of the these games in the New Testament of the Holy Bible. But did you know that there are references to these games in the Old Testament as well.
The Modern Olympic Games began in the summer of 1896 in Athens,Greece. And the Winter Olympics were added in 1924.In 1994 the Summer and Winter Olympics were no longer held in the same year, they were separated so that they could be two years apart.
A flame of fire was always lit when the Games began, but the Torch Relay was something that was added to the Modern Olympics.
Today, June 8,2014, is the Anniversary of the Christian Olympics. The Christian Olympics began with the fire that symbolized the Holy Spirit's coming. which started in Jerusalem over 2000 years ago on the Day of Pentecost(Acts 2).
And just as the athletes in the Olympics come from all over the world to one location for the Olympic Games, there was another large  gathering on the Day of Pentecost.Men out of every nation under heaven were gathered together in one place for the Opening Ceremony of the Christian Olympics.

The Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics Threats

The Opening Ceremony for the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics will be Friday February 7,2014.The torch relay which began on October 7,2013,has been carrying the Olympic Flame by individuals all of this time. And will reach the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games in Sochi on February 7,2014. But there is somewhat of a cloud over this particular Olympics because of the specific threats that have been reported by U.S. officials.
The report states that Muslim fundamentalists and other groups in Russia and it’s regions could launch deadly attacks. Now more than ever, whenever there is a large event, security is very tight because of past bombings and violence by individuals. Everywhere you go where there is a large crowd you have to watch your back. American athletes have been told not to wear any gear with U.S.A. logos outside of the Olympic area.
It can also be dangerous to identify yourself as a Christian for fear that you will persecuted or ridiculed. This is not new for Christians in the spiritual Olympics. Christians in many countries are persecuted everyday, threatened, and killed because of their faith in Jesus Christ. But God will be greatly reward them at the Closing Ceremony  You can learn more about the Christian Olympics by reading The Christian Olympics-Going for the Gold Crowns.Amazon is selling it for only $.99.Buy Now before they raise the price.

The Torch Relay Begins Today

The Olympic Flame for the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics was lit on Sunday September 29, 2013.Which took place at a Flame Lighting ceremony in Olympia, Greece; where the Ancient Olympic games began over 3000 years ago. The torch relay will begin today, October 7,2013 and will carry the Olympic Flame until it reaches the Opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Sochi on February 7,2014.It has been reported that this will be the longest Torch Relay in the history of the Winter Olympics . And this is the first time for Russia to host the Winter Olympics.
But there is another Olympic flame that was ignited over 2000 years ago, that still burns today.Whose flames were lit on the day of Pentecost when the fire that represented the Holy Spirit, ignited the Christian faith in Acts chapter 2. And began the longest and most enormous competition the world has ever seen, the Christian Olympics.

SPIRITUAL FITNESS

Fall is now here and it is a most beautiful season. With the Fall flowers blooming, and the leaves changing colors and falling from the trees. Another sign that it is fall is that summer is over and everyone is back to their normal routine. For some it is the beginning of a new year for the start of school and for others it is back to work.
This fall many of the topics for newspapers, magazines, talk radio, and other media has to do with losing weight, eating healthy, and exercising. These topics bring loads of advertisements for such things as diet books, diet foods and loads of weight loss products, whole food products, along with exercising equipment to keep in shape.
All of this to help us to live and eat healthier so that we can be physically fit.
But what about our spiritual fitness? We are not just physical beings. We are spiritual  beings as well and need to address the needs of our spiritual nature.
To be spiritually fit we have to feed our spiritual nature with spiritual food and do spiritual exercises. Spiritual fitness also involves spiritual training and spiritual discipline.
As we take care of the physical, let us not forget the spiritual as well. One of our spiritual exercises is walking by faith. Unlike physical walking where we can see where we are going, spiritual walking is by faith and not by sight.(2 Cor.5:7). Walking by faith is believing God’s promises will be fulfilled even when we can’t see them. With the gloomy situation that the world is in today, we need spiritual fitness more now then we ever did before. Having a healthy spiritual life will also help us with our physical fitness.
My book: The Christian Olympics: Going for the Gold Crowns, can help you to become spiritually fit. You will discover other spiritual exercises that are beneficial to your spiritual life. In times like these we cannot survive without spiritual fitness. Get On Your Mark, Get Set, And LET’S GET SPIRITUALLY FIT this Fall !!!

Pentecost-The Anniversary of the Longest Running Marathon

May 19, 2013 is the 50th day after Easter, a celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. This 50th day is known as the Day of Pentecost. On the 40th day after Jesus Christ’s resurrection, He ascended back to heaven to sit on the right hand of God. But before Jesus left, He told His apostles that He would send the promise of His Father and to wait in Jerusalem until they are “…endued with power from on high”(Luke 24:49).On the 10th day, which was the 50 day after Jesus’ resurrection, about 120 followers of Jesus were praying and waiting in  an upper room. When suddenly there was a sound of a rushing mighty wind from heaven that filled the house. And there appeared tongues of fire that sat on each of them and they were filled with the Holy Spirit of God and began to speak in different languages. On that day there were people from every nation under heaven. And they were able to hear in their own languages the wonderful works of God.
This was a promise that was fulfilled and the followers of Jesus were obedient. They waited to be filled with the Holy Spirit who empowered them to speak in languages that they had never known before. Which teaches us that it is impossible to do God’s work without the power of the Holy Spirit and the obedience that goes along with it. About three thousand souls became Christians that day which was the beginning of the Church and the Christian Marathon (Acts 2:1-47). This was also the beginning of the ministry of Holy Spirit that was sent from heaven to earth(John 16:7-11). On the Day of Pentecost the Holy Spirit baptized all of the followers of Jesus Christ into the body of Christ known as the Church. Today when someone receives Jesus Christ as their Saviour, immediately the Holy Spirit indwells the believer and baptizes them into the body of Christ(1Corinthians 12:13). And become a runner in the Christian Marathon.
The Christian Marathon which began with the mighty power of the Holy Spirit over 2000 years ago is still empowering us today. Giving us the supernatural abilities to use our spiritual gifts as we run in the spiritual marathon. As we celebrate Pentecost Sunday, the anniversary of the Christian Marathon, let us reflect back to its beginning. Everyday, every hour, every minute and every second someone is joining the Christian Marathon. Are you in the Christian Marathon?  How long have you been running in the spiritual race?
